**************************************** Pekin Lettes earn Hall of Fame spot PEKIN - Fred Reader remembers a time when the Pekin Lettes softball organization was the hottest show around these parts during the summer, drawing anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 spectators. So it's only appropriate, he says, that the oldest continuously running softball franchise in the nation would be inducted into the Amateur Softball Association's Hall of Fame during a ceremony to be held Saturday in Pekin. ............................................................................................................................................ Published on April 3, 2005, Peoria Journal Star Pekin team goes into state HOF - Two generations of Lettes among those honored by amateur association PEKIN - More than 125,000 fans watched the Pekin Lettes fast-pitch softball team play 20 home games in 1960. Lettes teams of that area were so dominant they usually got to bypass the state tournament and advance automatically to the national tournament. It's for that type of dynasty the Lettes were one of the first teams inducted in the new category added this year by the Illinois Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame.
